I wrote Spring Tethers while reflecting on several conflicting priorities as I began to contemplate a shift to post-vaccinated life. Throughout my gap year from 2020-2021, I learned to untether myself from the pacing of my pre-pandemic life, and ending that year required readjusting to different obligations and a faster pace of life. I played around with the notion of tethers in several different ways: the bitKlavier keyboard tuning is literally based on tethered springs (constantly adjusting the tuning), and the trumpet and saxophone lines often pull each other around while the percussion pushes forward.
