Teaching
Theo is an active teacher in both classroom and individual settings. He teaches composition, musicianship, and specialty classes for ages 10-18 at the Walden School’s Young Musicians program; ear training with National Children’s Chorus; musicianship classes for LA Children’s Chorus; and he teaches composition, theory, and musicianship privately. Theo studied a wide variety of compositional, theoretical, and pedagogical approaches during his studies at Princeton and USC that he applies in his teaching. Offerings
General Information
30/45/60-minute lessons remotely, 60-minute lessons in person
Ages 10 and up, all experience levels
$40/30 minute lesson, $55/45 minute lesson, $70/60 minute lesson (adjusted for commute time if in Los Angeles)
Curricula adaptable for students’ needs/interests
Composition
In person or remote
Style-inclusive teaching based around meeting student at their interests and employing diverse compositional tools
Focus on writing for specific people/performers rather than in the abstract
Theory

Can teach functional harmony in line with the AP Music Theory curriculum
Can teach extended topics including species counterpoint, atonal theory, advanced rhythm topics, acoustics, mathematical applications, and more
Musicianship/Ear Training
In person only
Teaching usually derived from the Walden School’s Musicianship curriculum (modified Kodaly program), can be adapted to student’s needs
